Warrior Truth: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts” Isaiah 55 v 9
It is easy to get overwhelmed by life’s many responsibilities when we look through our human perspective. There is always more to be done, and more that is needed than what our finances, time and energy levels can stretch to and so we draw up our plans and budgets to work within the constraints we have. When we feel we just do not have enough to warrant action, we seem to get stuck waiting for a better day, another time. For each person that threshold of enough is unique to their circumstance. As I pondered this universal and ongoing struggle to build a firm foundation, I felt a gentle nudge to bring it before God and allow Him to do what to me seemed impossible.
I was led to the well-known and much-loved biblical narration of Jesus feeding the 5000 and as I read the various accounts in the gospels, I was drawn to the account of John 6. In John 6 v 9, we are told the meagre contribution of 5 loaves and 2 fish belonged to a boy in the crowd. The disciples looked at the crowd and what they had and determined that there was no way to meet the need at hand. Their solution shared in the other accounts was to send the people away so that they might go in search of their own provisions. In contrast, a young boy looked at what he had, and whether he questioned whether it would be enough or not, he offered it with a hope and expectation that it would make a difference (without yet knowing what was possible in God). Jesus took what was offered, gave thanks for it and then a miracle of multiplication took place over and above what was needed in that moment.
Warrior Tool: As I read those words, I felt God speaking directly to me, encouraging me to offer what I had, no matter how little it seemed to me, challenging me to trust Him to do great things with it. The miracle was only fully complete (and the extent of it realised) when the disciples acted on the instruction to gather the leftovers. When we hold onto ‘our stuff’, we limit God. When we hand it over and respond to His instructions, we are abundantly blessed. I am seeing this principle play out in my life each day in the most incredible ways.
Prayer: Thank you Lord that the only solution you expect from us is that we accept the gift of Grace you have provided. Thank you that what seems inadequate, insufficient or simple, can be used to show Your Glory in remarkable ways. Help us to view what we have through Your eyes – seeing what we have as being filled with potential rather than laden with constraint. Help us to release what we have to You and open our ears to respond and act on your instruction. Amen
With God, For His Glory
