Finding myself in the presence of my Lord

Warrior Truth: “For a day in your courts in better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Ps 84 v 10 ESV

I left the office on Friday afternoon with a weary head and heart. I had spent the majority of my week collating data from numerous sources in multiple formats to populate a project report, but it wasn’t simply this largely administrative task that had sapped my energy. The week had been peppered with a number of different engagements from both a work and personal perspective. The ensuing reflections had left me unsettled and fatigued. I had more unanswered than answered questions; many connecting to the very familiar thread – identity.

I opened the Youtube music app on my phone and hit play on my custom playlist. I ran through the events from the week, considering how each had left me feeling. The midweek small group meeting, monthly ladies ministry meeting, an unexpected connect with a young woman using her passion for dance to express her love and gratitude to God all stood out in contrast to the corporate event specifically orchestrated for its inspirational potential. The speaker and message was certainly inspiring but a deep uneasiness had stirred within me in comparison to the peace and excitement I had felt in the formerly mentioned moments. As I sang along with the worship mix, the feeling of peace returned quietening my fretful thoughts and bringing clarity. Where the engagements connected me to the presence of the Lord, I felt peace. Where I did not feel connected to God’s presence, I felt almost tortured by my own thoughts. David’s words from the Psalms rang as my truth confirming for my identity and answering the unanswered questions. How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God… For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. (Ps 84 v 1-2, 10)

Warrior Tool: My playlist of Uplifting songs is a carefully curated collection of songs that invite me in to His courts, reminding me of all He has done for me. Technology also means that I can receive recommendations on new material based on what I most frequently listen too. As my phone is pretty much always with me (work and play) I have quick and easy access to this warrior tool when I need it. These songs fill my head and heart and come easily to my lips sustaining me throughout my day.

Prayer: How lovely is your dwelling place of Lord of Hosts! Thank you that in Your presence Lord we find peace and restoration. Thank you that You have made it possible for us to enter into Your courts just as we are, in the midst of everyday life. May those that are troubled today Lord accept Your invitation to spend time in Your presence, seeking their answers in You. Amen.
