Extraordinary power for an ordinary life

Warrior Truth: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1v8

As I went about my morning routine getting myself ready for work, my ever enthusiastic daughter darted around our bedroom play-acting whatever superhero adventure had grabbed her fancy that morning. Certain that I would be keeping step with her, she paused for a moment and enquired, “Mommy, what is your power?” A few random thoughts blitzed through my mind as I playfully pondered the question. But the words that came from my lips in answer were certainly not frivolous. With ease and deep assurance, I replied, “The Holy Spirit, my darling.” She smiled her broad beautiful smile and dashed off to get her bible to pack into her bag for the day.

My response had delighted her and, happily, not surprised her. It made me think about how others were seeing and experience me and the work I feel God doing in my life. Example after example, I could track God at work and a growing confidence and clarity. I could identify conversations started and opportunities embraced that were not there before. Not because of anything new I had learnt but because I had made the decision to surrender and had started on a journey of really trusting God for everything and through everything. And even in this journey, not in and of myself but because I have a Helper, an Advocate, showing me what is true and strengthening me each day.

Warrior Tool: More than a simple tool, the Holy Spirit as Helper is promised as our Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counsellor, Strengthener and Standby (AMP). We, too often, limit His power in our lives but trying to do things in our own strength. His challenge to me has been to bring every area of my life to Him, every struggle, every opportunity, every dream and desire, every gift and talent to Him so that He can breathe new life into it. And as I do that each day, I am blessed beyond measure.

Prayer:  Dear Lord God, thank you that we are not expected to take on the challenges and responsibilities of life in our own strength. Thank you that in accepting your incredible gift of Grace we are given power to transform our lives into a living testament of Your goodness. Help us Lord to listen for the voice of truth in our lives so that we might resist the temptation to go it alone but rather seek your way and your glory, even if it sometimes means choosing a path that seems more challenging. Strengthen and encourage those that find themselves in tough places and shine through our lives, our decisions, our action and our responses that others may see your power at work in us. Amen.

With God, For His Glory
