How to get victory over emotional and mental battles

Warrior Truth: “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
– 1 Corinthians 15:57

As I pondered over the story to tell in this next post, I found myself wrestling once again with an all too familiar dialogue. The trigger event this time though was not ‘the relationship’ I had already introduced but a more recent encounter at work. As I wrestled through this particular scenario, I found myself, somewhat unexpectedly, questioning the value I was contributing. Just as a sharpened arrow head penetrates deep into its target, the depth of impact far exceeded the surface. Time and project pressure intertwined with an old dialogue and I found myself distracted and disturbed by what I was facing. This distraction filtered across into personal time stalling any attempt to create or write – even for Warrior for Worthiness.

Exhausted and frustrated by the noise and chaos that had been building over several weeks, I no longer wanted to deal with or make sense of the emotional and mental struggle and made the decision to surrender it to God. As I did so, the insecurity and ‘fog’ lifted and I felt Him say, this is the story I want you to tell. Instead of recalling a historical moment, here I was in the midst of a battle I had fought many times before. Here I was once again in need of truth to make it through. The tools I chose at first, my own strengths and abilities, were simply insufficient for this fight. Fortunately, I serve a God who promises and gives victory. The even better news is that this victory has no time limit. It does not run out, dry up or fade away. We cannot use it up. This does not mean that every difficult situation will be removed from our lives. What it does mean is that we are better equipped with the truths and tools we need to deal with both what is seen and what is unseen.

Tool: Keep visual cues that help remind you of the truths to living a victorious life.

Inspirational quotes, uplifting songs, favourite bible verses on a keyring are great examples of physical cues that can remind you to take your struggle to God because victory comes through Jesus. When I find a really great message (one that reminds me not simply who I am, but whose I am and what that really means) I love to save it and share it for others to benefit from but that also means it is easy for me to reference when I really need it.

Prayer: Thank you Jesus that through you we have victory. Your word provides the truths we need to claim victory. Help us surrender these battles to you rather than try fight them in our own strength which fails. Spirit help us apply these truths and tools to overcome the emotional, mental and even physical battles we face today. Amen
